Journalism
I have experience in copywriting particularly flyers, booklets and event brochures. I review 12"s and albums for magazines including the imports for Blues & Soul. Many of these are personal friends whom I liase with regularly. I have covered all the major dance festivals in the UK plus the many DJ awards ceremonies, club launches and dance band tours. I am also a regular at the Miami Winter Music Conference.
Photography
My photographs have appeared in newspapers and dance magazines like WAX, International DJ Magazine, 7, Mixmag, Blues & Soul, Ministry and Club On. They have also appeared in lifestyle magazines like Heat. These have ranged from DJ and artist close-ups to crowd shots at festivals and venues with an artistic flare. I've covered all the UK's major festivals for various publications. I am also official photographer for Southport Weekender and have covered events overseas like Hungary's Boatparty 2000 for International DJ, Miami Winter Music Conference, San Francisco's Release and New York's Body & Soul for WAX and Xfade. I have also undertaken PR photo shoots of artists and DJs at various locations. More recently, I have been commissioned to capture dance culture moments for brands and sponsors including Red Bull, Playstation and Highland Spring. I have also undertaken club wear fashion photography for Urban Stone and Outrage Clothing that will appear in FHM in Spring 2001 plus in-house PR, press and websites.
Management, Promotion & Consultancy
Under the name of Deck Duties, I manage exclusively a few house DJs including Pacha's Nick Matar, DJ/ Producer Pete Walshe, Menage a Trois' Gary Benetton, Mainline Music's Simon Aston and drum 'n' bass DJ Buckley. Promotional tools have included biographies, mix CDs, videos, vinyl and photographs. I also regularly book the bigger name DJs like Joey Negro, Ian Ossia and others including Full Intention for some club promoters. Having access to the DJs I have interviewed, I offer a consultancy service for clubs wishing to book the big names whom I often know on a personal basis. I have helped secure line-ups for clubs like The Vision, Breed and The Manor as well as large events like Southport Weekender. Pre-event press and post event reviews are my specialty.
I am also involved in licensing singles to independent labels and organising singles projects with artists like Jocelyn Brown and Duane Harden and the DJ producers I work with.
PR and Marketing
Working with DJ/ producers and artists has meant that I have access to the music press, national press, local, independent and national radio as well as TV shows like Dance 2000. This can take the form of chart placings, competitions, photo shoots and montages, reviews, features, radio plugs, brochures and sponsorships. From writing press releases and biographies, organising photo shoots and interviews, ideas for maximising exposure are varied and plentiful.
